Japan was fatally wounded during World War II. President Truman along with many others wanted this war to end as quickly as possible. That drive for conclusion pushed the idea of using a nuclear weapon that had been secretly developed. Many scientists and the dean of the University of Chicago, where the research facilities were located, suggested that the atomic bombs not be used but academically shared with the world after the war. But the majority of those involved in the Manhattan Project supported the military use of the atomic bomb. The decision to use the atomic bomb to end the war was final. On August 6th, 1945, a B-9 heavy bomber dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan. The dropping of this first atomic bomb in Japan caused immediate devastation, and the long-term effects on nature and human life persist as an unmistakable stain on human history.
